Since the start of the year I have been reading The Daily Stoic, filled with bite-size bits of wisdom. I enjoyed the book so much I subscribed to their newsletter as well. I would encourage everyone reading this to browse some of the materials in the links and see if stoicism resonates with you in any way.
One of the stories I came across recently had to do with Socrates and his "three sieves" test. When presented with a piece of information, he would ask the person delivering the message to answer three questions. Is the information true? Is the information good? Is the information useful?
If the information is not true, is not good, and is not useful..."then why would you want to tell me this information?"
In the age of social media, that story hit home for me. Not every piece of information is going to be all three. But if you can't be at least one, then why continue to push the message forward? We all spend far too much time being critics and not enough time being cheerleaders. As we come out of this pandemic and look to return to "normal", we should take pause on what information we choose to spread.
One last thing to note. The SQL community lost a friend this past weekend. As I watched the many accolades given upon him upon passing, I had to stop and think "why do we wait until someone is dead to tell them how much they meant in our lives?"
If the accolades are true, good, and useful...why wait to tell the person?
So, that's what I leave you with today. Don't put it off any longer. Go and tell people the true, good, and useful stuff about themselves, the stuff you treasure and want them to know.

Look, choices can be hard. We get that. We see and hear it all the time when customers ask "should I buy DPA or SQL Sentry"?
At SolarWinds we decided the correct answer was "why not have both?"
So that's what we have done. Think of it as Thunderdome - Two products enter, one price leaves.
That's right, for one price you get access to both products. You can mix and match the products in your environment as you deem necessary.
If you haven't tried our products, there's no better time to get started.

A New DevOps Database Platform is Needed
There is a lot to unpack in this article, but the takeaway I want you to have is this: these issues are not new to DevOps. They have existed for decades. No, you don't need to create a new database, it will not solve your build process.

Overview of Data Transfer Costs for Common Architectures
Data transfer charges are often overlooked while architecting a solution in any cloud. This post does great job of summarizing all the things you must consider when using AWS.
You can’t take it with you: Stop data exfiltration now
Just this past weekend, a person no longer on the faculty at our local high school sent a targeted email to parents of incoming Seniors, soliciting for students looking for extra help writing college essays. So, this ex-employee still has access to internal distribution lists, or they "borrowed" the list before they left. Either way, this is wrong, and all too common.
